AN INTEGRATED PETROLEUM EVALUATION OF NORTHEASTERN NEVADA |
|
STRUCTURE The structural information of this report addresses three major structural topics. The first section is a brief description of the regional Structural Setting of northeastern Nevada. This includes an examination of the major structural events/elements responsible for creating the present structural architecture of northeastern Nevada. These events are discussed from oldest to youngest. The second topic is a detailed discussion of the Regional Structure focusing upon the structural style and geometry of the major ranges and valleys contained within the evaluation area. The generalized structural form and fault-fold system morphology are described for ranges and quadrangle areas, while the valley description and basin structural form are detailed for each basin. The third structural topic is a brief discussion of the Structural Domains determined during the course of this evaluation. Each of the major exploration domains are described in order, from those characterized by the oldest to youngest deformational history. These domains along with major normal faults, lateral faults and lineaments are shown on the Structural Domains Overlay III. The concluding section of this volume is a discussion of potential hydrocarbon trap types within the evaluation area. The appendix in the back of the volume shows the data table compiled in building the Cenozoic Basin Fill Isopach Overlay II. Many of the observations and conclusions about the geometry of the valleys have been drawn from this isopach. |
