UPPER PALEOZOIC
CARBONATE-DETRITAL ASSEMBLAGE
The Upper Paleozoic
Carbonate-Detrital Assemblage represents Mississippian through Permian sediments
deposited within the foreland basin extending east of the Antler "highland".
This Antler foreland was created during tectonic loading and down-flexing of the
continental crust by the Roberts Mountains allochthon. Within the foreland basin
coarse clastics such as the Diamond Peak, Moleen and Tomera, Carbon Ridge and
Garden Valley Formations are interfingered with bank and platform carbonates
such as the Joana and Ely Limestones. Permian lithologies deposited within
several small shallow water marine basins separated by locally emergent arches
are included with this assemblage.
