AN INTEGRATED PETROLEUM EVALUATION OF NORTHEASTERN NEVADA |
|
QUATERNARY BASIC AND INTERMEDIATE VOLCANICS Quaternary basalt flows, cinder cones, and flow breccias are present within the Lunar Crater volcanic field in the southern portion of the Pancake Range (Quinlivan and others, 1974). Although poorly dated these flows appear to be Holocene in age (Kleinhampl and Ziony, 1985). These flows are gray and black, vesicular and ropey lavas that are commonly scoriaceous with olivine, labradorite and clinopyroxene phenocrysts 8 to 10 mm across (Ekren and others, 1973). They are commonly 100 to 200 feet thick and can locally be 600 feet in thickness (Quinlivan and others, 1974). |
